A boutique heritage hotel in Jodhpur's walled city

RAAS Hotels is a collection of five distinct properties across Rajasthan and the Kumaon hills, each rooted in place and shaped by a clear point of view. Founded in 2009 by brothers Nikhilendra and Dhananjaya Singh with the opening of RAAS Jodhpur — the city's first boutique hotel, built around an 18th-century haveli at the foot of Mehrangarh Fort — the brand has since grown to include an Aravalli hill fort palace near Udaipur, a wilderness camp beside a reservoir in rural Rajasthan, a 19th-century royal residence in Jaipur, and a retreat in the forests of Kumaon. No two properties are alike.

What holds them together is a shared commitment to heritage, to sustainability practised on the ground rather than announced in brochures, and to the belief that luxury and responsibility are not in conflict. Since 2016, RAAS has operated without single-use plastic across all its properties. Water consumption has been reduced by 85% through greywater recycling, aerators, and rainwater harvesting. Each hotel maintains its own kitchen garden; since 2020, RAAS has grown its own organic wheat and pulses.

The portfolio has been recognised on Condé Nast Traveller's Hot List and Gold List, in Tatler's 101 Best Hotels in the World, and with the Aga Khan Award for Architecture — among the most demanding juries in the world. RAAS Jodhpur was awarded Holiday Building of the Year at the 2011 World Architecture Festival. RAAS Chhatrasagar was the first hotel to be listed on RARE, a distinction that speaks to how early, and how deliberately, this brand positioned itself.

Perfectly RARE

Stay in Jodhpur’s old city, where the bustle of the lanes outside the massive blue door of the Haveli opens to the hotel’s serene, plush sanctuary within the walls. It is an ideal way to immerse yourself in the soul of the city while enjoying every modern comfort. The hotel’s décor and ambience is magical especially in the evening and night with well lit Mehrangarh Fort as a stunning backdrop.

Raas Jodhpur

Destination

Towered over by Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur’s old city is best explored on foot and is a maze of blue homes and lanes steeped in history and character. At its heart lies RAAS Jodhpur, the city’s first boutique design hotel, seamlessly blending contemporary luxury with charming traditional elements, including a historic stepwell the management has helped restore.

Set directly below the fort, this restored mansion offers 40 suites with balconies, minimalist interiors and black marble terrazzo floors, arranged around a tranquil courtyard with an infinity pool, an ideal retreat to explore Jodhpur and around. Built with sustainability in mind, the hotel features solar-powered bathtubs, locally crafted floors and ornate pillars complemented by warm, authentic Rajasthani hospitality.

Design and Concept

RAAS has reimagined restoration by fusing historic heritage with contemporary elegance and set within the evocative lanes of Jodhpur’s walled city, framed by the looming presence of Mehrangarh Fort. Its forty rooms and suites, including the iconic Stepwell Suite, are spread between the restored old Haveli of red sand stone and a contemporary two storied modern building made of the same stone with a contemporary representation of classic Rajasthani architecture. RAAS offers world-class luxury with fine dining, atmospheric outdoor spaces and curated cultural experiences; all the more remarkable given the hotel’s creation within the old city’s narrow, crowded lanes.

Over time, RAAS has extended its vision to restore the adjoining stepwell, now transformed into the vibrant Stepwell Square with cafés, boutiques and a new suite in the corner of the courtyard. Entering through an arched doorway and past a glass-enclosed reception, the property unfolds to reveal its dramatic core: a courtyard where the swimming pool mirrors the red sandstone façades crafted as contemporary jaalis, framing stunning views of the fort.

Flanking the Baradari dedicated to day dining, are restored heritage rooms, intimate lounges, shops and Darikhana, the hotel’s multi-cuisine restaurant.

RAAS Jodhpur began as RAAS Haveli, the debut hospitality venture of brothers Nikhilendra and Dhananjaya Singh, blends heritage with refined luxury. Nikhilendra Singh, Founder and Managing Director of RAAS Hotels, leads the boutique hospitality group celebrated for seamlessly combining heritage and luxury in Rajasthan. Driven by a childhood ambition to create a boutique hotel in his hometown of Jodhpur, he co-founded RAAS with his brother, Dhananjaya Singh. Balancing privacy with a strong sense of place, RAAS achieves this with remarkable strategy that of layered experiences that define its location for the traveller.

Dining

Built in the late 18th century, Darikhana, meaning the “Chamber of Carpets,” is a sought-after alfresco dining space. Garden fresh produce is the hallmark here, alongwith hand-ground spices from a shop in Delhi. The Baradari, an elegant pillared hall dating to 1850, serves as another restaurant, open through the day. The Stepwell Café, with a unique position and view, opens onto the square and is accessible directly from the hotel via a private entrance to the stepwell. Alongside authentic Rajasthani fare, a range of international cuisines is offered. Guests can also opt for in-room dining and curated private dining experiences.
