Mihir Garh

Destination

At the edge of the Thar Desert, in a rural setting overlooking low dunes and open desert skies, stands Mihir Garh, a small boutique retreat built on a sacred dune known locally as Mali Nathji ka Dhora. The surrounding region is home to Bishnoi communities whose conservation traditions date back more than five centuries. Their long-standing protection of wildlife has helped sustain populations of blackbuck, chinkara and desert birdlife across this fragile landscape. Located about an hour from Jodhpur, Mihir Garh feels deeply connected to the desert while remaining within easy reach of the city.

Design & Concept

The idea for Mihir Garh grew from Sidharth Singh’s long-standing affection for a sacred dune known locally as Mali Nathji ka Dhora. The dune held deep significance for the surrounding communities, and he often visited it as a young boy. When the Singh family decided to create a new property, they chose this site and designed a small desert fort that would rise naturally from the landscape. Completed in 2009 by more than 100 local craftsmen, Mihir Garh was built of sandstone and uses traditional techniques, so that the structure appears to emerge from the dune itself. With only nine suites arranged around courtyards and terraces, the fort combines regional architecture with contemporary comfort while maintaining a strong sense of place within the desert landscape.

Hosts

Mihir Garh is run by Sidharth Singh and his wife Rashmi, part of the Rohet family whose hospitality journey began when Sidharth’s father opened their ancestral home, Rohet Garh, to guests in 1990. That initiative eventually grew into the House of Rohet, a group of properties rooted in the landscapes and communities of western Rajasthan. Sidharth’s long-standing connection to a sacred dune, Mali Nathji ka Dhora, dedicated to the warrior saint Mallinath of Marwar, inspired the creation of Mihir Garh on this very site. Rashmi Singh’s refined sense of design shapes the interiors, where traditional craftsmanship and thoughtful details reflect the region's character.

Facilities

The infinity pool sits at the edge of the property, looking out across the surrounding desert landscape. Comfortable seating areas and loungers allow guests to spend time outdoors throughout the day. The Vilasa Spa features two treatment rooms tucked within a walled garden, offering everything from reflexology to cleansing scrubs and massages using organic desert products. The open-sided lounges are designed to catch every breeze, the delightful drawing room houses a library for lazy afternoons, and the roof terrace is the perfect spot for sundowners. A small temple at the entrance holds daily puja, adding a gentle spiritual dimension to each day.
