Glenburn Tea Estate, Darjeeling

Glenburn's two plantation bungalows sit within 1,600 acres of certified Darjeeling tea gardens, where rolling hills meet preserved forests and Himalayan views. Owner Husna Tara Prakash, from Kolkata's celebrated 'chaiwala family,' has shaped the estate into something closer to a beautiful home than a hotel, and it shows in every detail.

Guests are greeted at the airport with cool towels and refreshments, in that sense the Glenburn experience begins here on arrival. Once there you are welcomed through a garden leading to the Burra Bungalow. Rooms and guest areas have hand-embroidered linens, fresh flowers, and wicker loungers overlooking the estate. The bungalows were designed around plantation living: deep verandas, high ceilings, and rooms oriented toward gardens and mountains.

More than half the land remains uncultivated — wild forest, birdlife, and the river valley coexisting alongside the tea. The experience reflects this balance: riverside picnics, high teas with freshly baked cakes, nature trails through the gardens. Guests often describe it as a homecoming.

The charm of Glenburn is in it's leisure moments. That said, Water Lily Bungalow includes a compact spa offering signature Glenburn tea therapies. Throughout the estate, gardens are adorned with seasonal flowers and fragrant honeysuckle. Fresh garden flowers and fruit baskets brighten each room. Hot water bottles and electric blankets offer refuge from the chill, while overhead fans provide relief on the rare warm days. Bathrooms combine nostalgia with luxury; claw footed bathtubs alongside modern rain showers and hair dryers, all complemented by Darjeeling Green Tea toiletries that capture the essence of the tea estate.

The estate offers numerous hiking options with walking trails, as 60% of the area is preserved as natural forests. Explore wildflowers, birds, and quaint villages. Opt for a guided trek to the Rangeet River or select a vantage spot for a planter’s picnic lunch.
