Sustainability Story of Utsav Camp

|Sustainability Stories

Utsav Camp sits in the rugged, sun-washed landscape of Sariska, where the Aravallis hold scrub forest, wildlife, village life, and the particular drama of Rajasthan’s dry country. Its Pinwheel story is one of energy efficiency, water sensitivity, local employment, biodiversity observation, and food systems that keep their feet on the ground.

Solar panels installed at the cottages help reduce carbon emissions, making clean energy part of the camp’s operating rhythm rather than a decorative claim. In a region where heat and water scarcity shape everyday life, indigenous plants play their part too, supporting groundwater health while requiring little additional water. Linen and towels are changed only on request for guests staying more than one night, a small but necessary act of restraint in a thirsty landscape.

The camp has a no-plastic policy, serves RO-filtered water in glass bottles, segregates waste, composts biodegradable waste, and creates vermicompost for soil and plants. This circularity extends into its food philosophy. A Zero Mile approach guides seasonal menus, supported by pesticide- and chemical-free gardens that produce fresh vegetables and herbs.

The biodiversity work is thoughtful and grounded. Naturalists and rangers document local wildlife through camera traps and photography, map habitats, maintain checklists of indigenous flora and fauna, and help guests understand Sariska as a living system rather than simply a safari destination.

Over 85% of the team comes from Tehla and nearby villages, making local hiring, training, and skill-building central to the camp. Utsav Camp’s luxury is not loud. It is rooted, sunlit, attentive, and quietly accountable to the land around it.
