Sustainability Story of Jamtara Wilderness Camp

|Sustainability Stories

Jamtara Wilderness Camp understands a truth that many wilderness properties forget: the forest does not need to be improved by architecture. It needs to be respected by it.

Set near Pench National Park, Jamtara’s Pinwheel story is built on minimal infrastructure, reclaimed materials, biodiversity conservation, community engagement, and a rare seasonal humility. The camp is dismantled before the monsoon, allowing the land and forest edge to recover. It is a quiet masterclass in impermanence. In a sensitive landscape, sometimes the most intelligent building is the one that knows when to disappear.

Jamtara’s conservation philosophy places people at the centre of wildlife protection. Communities living around forests face crop loss, livestock predation, and the daily complexities of human-wildlife coexistence. The camp recognises them not as peripheral beneficiaries, but as the true guardians of the jungle.

Its light footprint comes from restraint: local produce, modest scale, immersive wilderness, and a deliberate refusal to dominate the landscape. The tiger may attract the traveller, but Jamtara’s deeper story is about everything, and everyone, that allows the tiger to remain.
