A Glimpse into Nepal's Heritage
Nepali Ghar

Kathmandu is an ancient city with a history that spans over two millennia. Located in central Nepal, the Kathmandu Valley is home to seven of Nepal’s ten World Heritage Sites and is known for its religious, cultural, and historical significance. Having changed hands with various rulers, it is home to several Hindu and Buddhist temples, is an ideal glimpse into Nepal, and the gateway for travellers and adventure enthusiasts, especially mountaineers and trekkers.

Located in Kathmandu city is Nepali Ghar, which blends the modern with the traditional aspects of Nepal.

Perfectly Rare

Nepali Ghar and Seto Ghar give a glimpse into the lifestyle of the nobles and royals of Nepal. With a blend of heritage equipped with modern comforts, the hotel makes for an ideal base when visiting Kathmandu before heading out to other areas of Nepal; or perfect to spend a few days relaxing...

Know Your Host

Nepali Ghar now lies in the hands of Raju Shrestha, who has many interests but has always enjoyed welcoming guests at home and thus decided to take on a hospitality project.

The design here is inspired by traditional Nepali architecture while ensuring protocol around fire safety and earthquake resistance. The hotel has two wings: Nepali Ghar and Seto Ghar. While Nepali Ghar has been built, Seto Ghar is a restored building.

Seto Ghar was the royal residence of Nepalese Brigadier Colonel Pahalman Singh Basnyat, who commanded the Nepali contingent in the suppression of the Indian Sepoy Mutiny at the behest of the British Raj. He was given the title of Shree 1 Maharaja of Khaptad and was commonly known as ‘Khaptadi Raja’. The residence changed hands and underwent a few renovations to modernise it before it came into the hands of the current owners, who took it upon themselves to restore it. An experienced team was appointed to research and understand the best practises to renovate it and bring it as close to its original form as possible. Wooden frames and antique iron railings from other buildings have been used in the restoration process.

The hotel has a terrace that offers city views, two courtyards, a restaurant and bar, a conference hall, and a fitness centre.

There are various types of accommodation available at Nepali Ghar.

There are 50 Heritage / Classic Deluxe rooms, 6 Heritage Deluxe Corner rooms, 2 Classic Junior Suites, and 1 each of the Mangriha Suite, Kailashkut Suite, and IndraGriha Apartment.

Some of the Heritage Deluxe rooms come with a balcony, and all rooms in the Nepali Ghar wing are based on traditional Nepali architecture with wooden panels as a common theme. The rooms in the Seto Ghar wing give a glimpse into the neoclassical heritage of old aristocratic homes.

The two classic Junior Suites are housed in Seto Ghar and come with a living room and bedroom. The Kailashkut Suite and Maan Griha Suite are within the Nepali Ghar wing and have been named and inspired by the Vedic Tripura styled palace built by the Licchavi King Amshuverma. The Kailashkut suite is spread over 630 square feet and comes with a separate living room area, a private balcony, and a Jacuzzi.

All rooms come with large windows offering plenty of natural light, ensuite bathrooms, WiFi, free parking, and concierge service.

A variety of cuisines are served, including Nepali, Asian, Indian, and Continental, with plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans, and those with special dietary requests.

The Ananda Lounge and Bar is set on the top floor, comes with a terrace, and serves international snacks and Mediterranean cuisine.

Nepali Ghar offers complimentary meditation and yoga for all guests. There is no spa within the hotel premises, however, they have tied up with a prominent brand and can be accessed by prior appointment.
