Rajakkad Estate, Dindigul

Destination>Tamil Nadu>Rajakkad Estate, Dindigul

Deep in Palani hills, just under a two-hour drive from Madurai are verdant forests still home to tribes who make a livelihood for themselves collecting honey and other produce that the forest generously bestows upon them. It is here that Francis Fry created the amazing story of Rajakkad Estate, a 40-acre coffee and pepper plantation where he transported a wooden palace from Kottayam in 30,000 pieces across the border with the help of Robesh, his estate Manager. Today Rajakkad Estate is a unique homestay sitting pretty atop the Palani hills promising travellers great food, indulgence to rejuvenate themselves in the midst of a busy South India sojourn. Set around the courtyards of the wooden palace, creating interesting spaces at once shaded and inviting with the sky, a water body in one and a wide courtyard with a central tree in another – an invitation to bird songs.  Suites and rooms, beautiful in their simplicity and design with large doors leading to the gardens outside, a library, dining spaces and many lounges are places to relax and dine within the palace, Rajakkad is run with a hospitality that is akin to attentive home under Robesh’s care with his small personally trained team.
