Churu is quaint town and a delightful getaway into the fresco filled region of Shekhawati. Generous in its spread of sprawling havelis, many of India’s prominent businessmen have their elaborately designed family homes here, sadly most of them are slowly falling prey to the indifference of their erstwhile owners and the insensitive attention of local residents.
On one hand Churu is engulfed within the vicious ring of commerce and on the other hand are people like Deepak Balan, born here, educated to be aware of the mine of history and architecture that is a part of the city, wishing to come back and begin a passionate crusade to conserve a legacy of architecture and art that people neither have the time nor taste for. This is precisely why Malji Ka Kamra, its story and its conservation history is relevant to RARE.
Malji Ka Kamra – is a restored heritage building with 11 Rooms and suites, carefully preserving the elements of the original architecture and aiming to recreate the ambience of yore, to host travelers and introduce them to a region full of architectural relics. Excursions within and around Churu reflect the lifetimes of business families and their inspiration behind constructing buildings, water reservoirs and temples.
